Circular Agriculture Hub

Here at the Circular Agriculture Hub we intercept fruits and vegetables that don’t make it past the farm gate and provide additional routes for redistribution and value recovery so that no food is wasted.

University of Bristol

Our model is as simple as connecting farmers to small food producers, social supermarkets, other farmers, innovators…and finding new uses for perfectly edible food that is has been labelled as WASTE.

Some facts:

  • 25%+ of UK food waste occurs on farms

Over a quarter of all food waste in the UK happens before leaving the farm gate—equating to around 3 million tonnes annually

  • 2–3.6 million tonnes of farm-level surplus/waste per year

An estimated 2 million tonnes never make it past the gate, while WRAP finds around 3.6 million tonnes of primary production surplus—including 1.6 million tonnes of direct waste—worth over £1.2 billion .

  • 4.7 million people in the UK face food poverty

This stark reality underscores the social need the Hub aims to address

  • 7% of all food intended for consumption is wasted on-farm

That amounts to about 6.9 billion meals each year being lost before reaching consumers
